2021 Chrysler Pacifica Highlights

February 28th, 2020 by

Chrysler last overhauled the gem of its lineup, the Pacifica minivan, only four years ago. Unexpectedly, the automaker unveiled the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show — and let us tell you we’ve got quite the update on our hands. Within the short span of time, Chrysler not only overhauled its star minivan, but the brand also continuously works to  redefine what it means to be a great minivan! The 2021 Pacifica model adds all-wheel-drive, new crossover-inspired design, and an all-new top-shelf Pinnacle trim. Mary Capo, senior manager of Chrysler brand products, spoke to AutoGuide and stated that the brand’s main priority is giving customers what they want.

Chrysler focused on practicality when it reintroduced the Pacifica in 2017, but the brand made major moves over the years to tip the scale more towards the luxury side of things. A move planned to match market demands more than anything, the updates are a far-cry from the traditional and more budget-conscious minivans of the past — think the fleet-friendly Dodge Grand Caravan for example. To separate the Pacifica as a luxury-oriented model, Chrysler introduced the all-new Voyager minivan, which is itself a pared back Pacifica. The introduction of the Voyager made room in Chrysler’s lineup to cement the Pacifica as a luxury people mover. The new Pacifica Pinnacle trim will be the one to help Chrysler upmarket its minivans.

When asked about the all-new Pinnacle trim, Capo said the following: “From an exterior point of view we’ll start on the Pinnacle, it has unique finishes. You don’t find that on the other models we offer.” Unique finishes include a large Pinnacle badge and platinum chrome accents and finishes. On the inside, the 2021 Pacifica Pinnacle offers buyers an exclusive black and caramel color scheme with quilted Nappa leather and class-exclusive pillows. Additionally, the Pacifica Pinnacle also features an enormous center console referred to as the “Ultra Console.” Wireless charging is available as well as at least 12 USB ports that are scattered throughout the minivan’s cabin.

Chrysler knows that the automotive industry as a whole is shifting to utility vehicles — 4×4, all-wheel-drive vehicles have greatly risen in popularity during the past decade. Given the shift, Chrysler adapted and introduced all-wheel-drive on the 2021 Pacifica minivan. Although not unique in its segment — the Toyota Sienna has all-wheel-drive as well, the 2021 Pacifica offers buyers plenty of features that other minivans don’t. The 2021 Pacifica is the only minivan that offers all-wheel-drive and class-exclusive Stow ‘n Go seats, making it easy for owners to get the most “utility” out of their minivan. Styling also changed, with the 2021 Pacifica featuring a crossover-inspired design that nudges it closer to the utility segment without losing its family-friendly appeal. “We’re actually just continuing to evolve and give the customers what they want,” Capo told AutoGuide

Tech & Safety

The 2021 Pacifica will be the public’s first interaction with the recently-introduced Uconnect 5 infotainment system. Given this is a flagship model, the true test for the infotainment system will be its response when dealing with an entire family. The touchscreen display itself is now 10.1 inches big and is capable of storing various user profiles. Users can choose their own personal radio, climate and seat settings, while profiles are switchable with the simple touch of a button.

Capo went into great detail about the Pacifica’s safety features, saying “Technology has always been important. And with that, even safety. There is a safety element of course with minivans, being family people haulers. The Chrysler Pacifica has always offered quite a bit as far as safety. We added a new standard LED lighting, so headlamps, foglamps, taillamp with the new design. LEDs are going to be better illumination, better light pattern spreads, so it’s about safety. We also added standard pedestrian automatic emergency braking. We do offer a whole other suite of safety features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure — all of those things continue.”

Although the 2021 Pacifica won’t roll across dealer lots until the end of 2020, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy what the current model offers now.
