Engine Type

Every 2024 Jeep Compass is powered by a new 200-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine that also delivers 221 pound-feet of torque. It is bolted to an eight-speed transmission, and all-wheel drive is now standard on all Compass trims. Trailhawk trims add a low “crawler” gear ratio and a Rock mode, which keeps the Compass in first gear and directs torque only to the wheels that can find grip. The Compass feels more agile than its tall, boxy profile would suggest, responding ably to inputs, and the steering is nicely weighted. That said, there is some lean during tight cornering, but overall, the Compass feels well-controlled, solidly planted, and capable on the road.

What’s new for 2024?

Jeep does not change much for the Compass in 2024, but this small SUV receives new appearance and equipment packages later this year. Even though Jeep has not detailed what those will look like, the front grille insert was updated, and new 19-inch wheel designs will be offered later in the model’s life cycle. The rugged Trailhawk also gets a new all-terrain tire.

Exterior Features

The 2024 Jeep Compass is pleasant and attractive, even if there are some quirky exterior touches. The exterior is a dead-ringer for the last-generation Grand Cherokee up front, with a seven slot grille flanked by narrow headlights. From the side, it is a bit portly with its oversize fenders and chunky roof pillars. Optional two-tone paint does a good job hiding some of that heft, though. In turn, Trailhawk variants have a slick, rugged appearance with a high-riding suspension and red tow hooks.

Interior Features

The Compass SUV’s interior is comfortable and functional, with enough space for four adult passengers. The back seat is neither the largest nor the smallest of the crossovers in this diverse class. Its high seat bottoms in the back seat mean that passengers’ legs are fully supported, and even long rides can be comfortable. It has enough luggage space for an airport run, and the rear seatbacks angle slightly upward when folded.

Entertainment

The standard touchscreen in the 2024 Jeep Compass measures 10.1 inches and offers natural voice recognition and navigation, in addition to wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility.

Safety Features and Warranty

Jeep offers a wide suite of driver-assistance technology for the Compass. Essential safety features include standard lane-keeping assist, automated emergency braking, and available adaptive cruise control. Other features range from all-new active driving assist to forward collision warning with active braking and blind spot monitoring with rear cross path detection. In terms of warranty, limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles, while the powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles. Complimentary maintenance is also covered for three years.
