First Impressions of the Revamped Ram HD Trucks
Heavy-duty pickups are notorious for being workhorses that get tasks done while offering little in the way of luxury and comfort. In fact, there haven’t been any major changes to the role of heavy-duty pickups on job sites over the decades, but Ram is attuned to the ever-changing needs of consumers. If the past few overhauls are anything to judge by, it’s obvious that Ram is determined to bring the work truck into the 21st century. Ram’s revamped heavy-duty 2500 and 3500 trucks were introduced back in January at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show and now is when journalists are finally getting behind the wheel for those “first drives.” Let’s see what details their first impressions can offer us.
High-end features are all the rage according to journalists that got a chance to experience the all-new Ram HD lineup. They “may as well be the most advanced work trucks ever offered to commercial customers,” said one lucky reviewer. Of importance were the trucks’ smooth ride and confident handling mixed in with cutting-edge advanced safety features and a long list of available desirable amenities. Calling the Ram brand’s revamped heavy-duty pickup lineup state-of-the-art doesn’t feel like a stretch.
What else does the Ram HD lineup offer that’s most important to truck buyers? Capability – in droves. New models are subject to be paired with any of the two engines available, starting with the 6.4-liter HEMI V8 that offers 410 horsepower and up to 429 lb-ft of torque. Those in need of something with a little more power under the hood can opt for the reworked 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel engine that’s capable of delivering 370 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, there is a high-output variant of the very same Cummins turbodiesel engine that’s capable of generating 400 horsepower and a jaw-dropping 1,000 lb-ft of torque – a best-in-class figure.
According to journalists, the super-sized Mega Cab body style Ram HD pickup is the one to beat when it comes to comfort thanks to its expansive rear seat complete with reclining seatbacks and plenty of legroom. The Mega Cab is highly recommended for those that are hauling a full crew of grown adults. Back seats on the Mega Cab (and the Crew Cab) fold down and provide plenty of inside cargo room that’ll keep valuable tools and equipment protected and hidden from view.
Journalists also alleged that Ram places a lot of emphasis on handsome design and higher-quality materials when it comes to their newest cabin interiors – and all without breaking the bank! Even the entry-level trucks are described as being over the top, with touches of genuine leather scattered throughout the lineup, along with open-pore wood trimmings that add a bit of sophistication to a cabin that’s notoriously known to be mostly rugged. Another plus of the all-new heavy-duty Ram lineup? Active noise cancellation technology combined with sound-deadening materials and an acoustic windshield glass all work together to reduce the noise harshness when riding in these pickups.
The experience is said to be unlike anything consumers have experienced in a pickup yet and we can’t wait until these revamped Ram 2500/3500 heavy-duty pickups make their way to dealer lots.
