Introducing the Ram HD Kentucky Derby Edition

April 18th, 2019 by

Readers shouldn’t be surprised to learn that the Ram brand is the official automotive sponsor of the legendary Kentucky Derby, known as the biggest race in the American thoroughbred horse racing world. As is customary with Ram, the brand recently used the New York Auto Show as the backdrop for the debut of their latest pickup – a special Ram Heavy Duty Kentucky Derby Edition. Reid Bigland, head of Ram brand, was excited to introduce the latest gem of the Ram lineup stating “The Kentucky Derby remains one of America’s most recognized sporting events. This hardworking truck is packed with exclusive technology, luxury and good looks that make it fit to wear the Kentucky Derby name.”

The all-new 2500 and 3500 heavy duty pickups from Ram are the chosen models to sport the Kentucky Derby Edition package. Thanks to some class-leading towing and hauling figures, these heavy duty trucks are the perfect option for horse owners that need to haul big, heavy trailers as they pack big power, big capabilities, and definitely big luxury. Available in the Limited trim only, the Kentucky Derby Edition offers buyers plenty of options, including the choice between two capable engines – a Cummins 6.7-liter Turbo Diesel or a 6.4-liter HEMI V8. Available in rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, in Mega Cab or Crew Cab configurations, single or dual rear wheels, and a choice between a 6’4” or 8’ cargo box – all clear indications that a pickup this powerful is set to cater to a wide array of needs.

There are a total of seven exterior colors available: Patriot Blue, Max Steel, Granite Crystal, Diamond Black Crystal, Delmonico Red, Pearl White, and Bright White. All trucks feature a large Kentucky Derby logo on the rear bedsides. Other perks of the Kentucky Derby Edition include a 360-degree surround-view camera system complete with trailer-reverse guidance, active hitch grid lines, air suspension with bed lowering capabilities, fifth-wheel/gooseneck prep, and Forward Collision Warning Plus with trailer braking. There’s also a 12-inch Uconnect infotainment touchscreen display complete with SiriusXL and navigation; a Blind-Spot monitoring system and power-retracting running boards as well.

The Kentucky Derby Edition will also feature a unique leather-clad cabin, combining the look and design of both the Limited and Longhorn trims that make for a gorgeous, two tone layout accented with metal trim and genuine wood. Prospective buyers that may be interested should act quickly as Ram is limiting the production to 1,000 units. The Kentucky Derby Edition Ram 2500 has a starting MSRP of $ 66,890 and the Ram 3500 Kentucky Derby Edition starts at $68,240 – plus a $1,695 destination fee.
