The Dodge brand has added another wild muscle car to the Challenger family – the 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320. This drag-oriented monster is the most affordable alternative to the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. Aside from the Demon’s wide bodywork and supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine, the Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 is the lightweight version of the Challenger R/T model.

Named “1320” for the length of a quarter mile, the Scat Pack 1320 demolishes a quarter-mile in 11.7 seconds at a top speed of 115 mph and hits 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. Once the Scat Pack 1320 is equipped with a 6.4-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine and the TorqueFlite 8HP70 eight-speed automatic transmission, this power duo outputs an impressive 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. The TorqueFlite transmission is necessary in order to utilize the TransBrake and Torque Reserve system. Also, all four wheels on the Scat Packs are wrapped in Nexen SUR4G Drag Spec 275/40R20 street-legal drag radial tires.

“All it takes is an evening spent at a local drag strip to learn that the grassroots drag-racing community is large and extremely loyal to their cars,” says Fiat-Chrysler exec Steve Beahm. “We created the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 for the heart of the sport, the bracket racer who wants to drive to the track, suit up, go fast and go home with a big smile and maybe a trophy in the trunk with minimal prep and upkeep.”

Compared to the Challenger SRT Demon, the Scat Pack 1320 also comes with only the driver’s seat, and like the Demon, the passenger and rear seats can be added for $1 each. It’s important for consumers to keep in mind that once those seats are installed, it increases the curb weight by 114 pounds. Dodge is essentially presenting the Scat Pack 1320 as a black canvas that allows consumers to make it their own, and ultimately providing drag-racers a “bare-bones” performance vehicle without breaking the bank.

What makes the Scat Pack 1320 a street-legal drag car is its SRT-tuned adaptive damping suspension with line lock, drag mode, and extreme-duty 41-spline rear half-shafts. Lastly, to prevent the tires from slipping on the rim, 20 x 9.5-inch aluminum-forged wheels with knurled bead seats are also included.

The 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 joins the forever growing Challenger family, that includes the 2019 Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye and the upgraded 2019 Charger SRT Hellcat. Contrary to the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon’s $84,995 price tag, the Dodge Challenger Scat Pack 1320 has a starting MSRP of $45,980 (plus destination fee). Release date is expected early 2019.
