Engine Type
If customers go with a front-wheel drive, they have six trims to choose from ā Sport, Sun & Wheel, Latitude, Altitude, Limited, and High Altitude. If selecting a 4Ć4 drivetrain, the same trims are available, but the Sun & Wheel is replaced with the Upland, and the addition of the Trailhawk is right before the Limited trim. What is powering all of the trims is a 2.4-liter I4 MultiAir engine or some variation of it. The differences are that one offers a Stop-Star dual battery system for increased fuel efficiency.
The 2019 Jeep Cherokee generates 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. The standard engine of 2.4-liter I4 MultiAir is on the base trim, the Cherokee Sport, but the lineup comes with the M-Air engine. It’s an option for the Sport in either drivetrain. With the 4Ć4, the Latitude takes a back seat and gets the MultiAir engine with Stop-Start tech, but you can also upgrade.
Transmission & Towing-
There is mention of a nine-speed automatic transmission option for the 4Ć4 drivetrain, but there you’ll find a six-speed manual standard for the base and Latitude with 4Ć4. Customers can upgrade to a six-speed Aisin automatic transmission. All other trims come with the AutoStick transmission for the choice of manual gear shifting.
Jeep states that the 2019 Jeep Compass still has the 4Ć4 systems from 2018, Active Drive and Active Drive Low 4Ć4. The specifications only say the basic Selec-Terrain system that all Jeeps come with, but they can handle multiple types of terrain. There are up to five modes of drives that are offeredā Auto, Sport, Snow, Rock, and Sand/Mud. It’s only available with a 4Ć4 drivetrain if the 4Ć4 systems return, customers can also benefit from a 20:1 crawl ratio, a low-range for enhanced off-road capability in Active Drive Low 4×4 and a rear axle disconnect with Active Drive.
