Dodge Unveils the 2020 Challenger
The 2019 model year Dodge Challenger got a lot of love from its manufacturer. Dodge debuted two new models for 2019: the R/T Scat Pack Widebody and the 797-horsepower SRT Hellcat Redeye. However, Dodge just announced various updates for its current lineup that will only make it better. A large part of the brand’s lineup will see no changes, as the 2020 Journey for example, but both the Dodge Challenger and Challenger SRT offer buyers so much more for the 2020 model year.
The exterior style of the Challenger will remain within its retro looks, but buyers will be able to choose from nine new wheel options and finishes. SXT and GT trims (all-wheel-drive) will have standard 19-inch Satin Carbon wheels and optional Black Noise wheels. Both offerings are part of the Blacktop Package. The GT trim (rear-wheel-drive) features new standard 20-inch Satin Carbon wheels and optional Lights Out wheels — part of the Performance Handling Group. R/T Challenger trims have 20-inch Satin Carbon wheels as the standard as well, but also offer optional Lights Out wheels (Performance Handling Group) or polished Tinted Clear wheels (Plus Group). The R/T Scat Pack has 20-inch Low Gloss Granite wheels as the standard, while the Widebody models such as the Hellcat and Hellcat Redeye features the new 20- X 11-inch Low Gloss Black wheels.
Buyers will also enjoy other updates such as new HEMI fender badges for the R/T and a Scat Pack Bee spoiler badge for the R/T Scat Pack. There are also three new exterior paint options: Frostbite, Sinamon Stick, Hellraisin. All trims that have leather upholstery will also have an all-new premium-stitched dash, upper door panels, and optional carbon-fiber bezels.
The Performance Handling Group on the GT (rear-wheel-drive) and R/T trims, as well as the Widebody Package on the R/T Scat Pack and Dynamics Package for the R/T Scat Pack all offer a new flat-bottom leather steering wheel. Challenger GT, R/T, and R/T Scat Pack trims all have an optional new Caramel Alcantara interior color.
Engine options haven’t changed since last year’s models, which means that all SXT and GT trims come standard with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 that boasts 305 horsepower. Challenger R/T trims feature Dodge’s infamous 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine under the hood with up to 375 horsepower, while the Challenger R/T Scat Pack and Scat Pack Widebody trims are powered by a naturally aspirated 392 HEMI V8 that generates 485 horsepower. The Challenger SRT Hellcat and SRT Hellcat Redeye trims both surpass all expectations with a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 under the hood, making 797 horsepower.
