FCA Breaks Sales Records During the Month of May
A celebration is in order as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) achieved three new records in May 2019 according to their latest sales report. The Ram brand comes in as the leader thanks to posting its 12th consecutive monthly sales record in the light-duty and heavy-duty truck segments. Ram sales remain strong after initially blowing past Chevrolet sales earlier this year and taking over the second place as best-selling truck makers. The Jeep Grand Cherokee posted its best May sales figure to date (June 2019,) while the Dodge Charger had its best May in six years.
All in all, FCA total sales rose a total of 2 percent during May, totaling about 218,702 vehicles. As far as the year-to-date metrics go, the FCA fleet accounts for 22 percent of overall sales. Reid Bigland, Head of U.S. sales, said “On a year-over-year basis we have increased our average transaction prices by more than $3,000 a vehicle and still managed some notable sales increases. In its first full month on sale, our all-new Jeep Gladiator pickup truck delivered more than 2,500 vehicle sales, our Ram pickup truck sales soared 33 percent and the Jeep Grand Cherokee delivered its best May sales ever.”
Speaking of best May sales ever, the Jeep Gladiator offered a special Launch Edition that also sold out almost immediately during the month of May. The Launch Edition of the Jeep Gladiator is based on the Rubicon and offers unique cosmetic touches that commemorate its launch. Along with the cosmetic touches, the Gladiator Launch Edition also features unique 17-inch glass black aluminum wheels clad with 33-inch Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires. The tailgate features a special badge that reads “One of 4,190,” alluding to the number of units Jeep manufactured of the Launch Edition Gladiator. The number isn’t just any number chosen at random, the initial 419 references the area code of Toledo, Ohio, where the Gladiator is currently being assembled alongside the Jeep Wrangler.
Jeep offers the Launch Edition in the following exterior colors: Billet Silver Metallic, Granite Crystal Metallic, Firecracker Red, Black, and Bright White. All models are offered with a body-color hard top and matching fender flares. On the inside, the pickup has black leather seats with red stitching and Monaco silver accents throughout. Under the hood, the Launch Edition features the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that generates 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Just like on the standard Gladiator, the Launch Edition offers buyers a choice between a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic.
