Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has something to celebrate this month – they’re celebrating the delivery of the 10,000th Dodge Charger Pursuit vehicle equipped with the Officer Protection Package. Entering its third year, the Office Protection Program is offered free of charge on all 2019 Dodge Charger Pursuit vehicles and is designed to improve an officer’s situational awareness while working inside the Charger Pursuit. The Officer Protection Package was implemented thanks to an alliance between FCA and InterMotive, Inc.

The Officer Protection Package uses FCA’s fleet technology – the rear park assist system, rear backup camera, and rear cross path detection features – combined with InterMotive’s Surveillance Mode Module to alert officers when movement at the rear of the vehicle is detected while they’re parked. If and when motion is detected, a chime will sound to inform the officer of the potential danger in the area. The officer can immediately see what is behind the vehicle thanks to the Uconnect infotainment screen.

This is where it gets high-tech – the Charger Pursuit can program the tripped sensors to react in different ways for added safety depending on the local law enforcement agency. The tripped sensors can be programmed to initiate a signal for the doors to lock automatically, the front windows to roll up, turning on the reverse lights and causing the tail lights to flash. The vehicle’s quick response system gives the officer a few critical extra seconds to assess and react accordingly to the situation.

The Charger Pursuit comes standard with a 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6 engine capable of delivering 292 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The engine offers E85 flex-fuel capability and up to 26 mpg on the highway. Also available is a 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 engine capable of delivering 370 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque. The V8 engine comes equipped with fuel saver technology that deactivates four cylinders when eight are unnecessary.

Another specific feature available only to law enforcement on the  Dodge Charger Pursuit is the 12.1-inch Uconnect touchscreen that allows for the integration of law enforcement operating systems. The touchscreen is designed to be operated in extreme temperatures while maintaining unrestricted access to other vehicle controls. This vehicle interface module allows for easy equipment integration. Other features that are only available on the Charger Pursuit are police-duty front seats that have distinctive bolstering to accommodate belt-mounted equipment and a column-mounted shifter that frees up space in the middle for center console-mounted gear.

The Officer Protection Package isn’t the only feature protecting law enforcement officers. Ballistic door panels are available to help keep officers safe while on the job. Meanwhile, the steel safety frame construction made of high-strength steel helps protect officers by managing and controlling energy in the event of a collision. Specially designed rear and front crumple zones complete the safety features by absorbing energy in case of an impact and redirecting it away from passengers to mitigate injury risks.

Are you as impressed with these safety features as we are? Let’s celebrate FCA’s 10,000th Dodge Charger Pursuit Delivery by chatting on Cape Coral CDJR social media!
