Jeep Cherokee Has Earned the 2019 Top Safety Pick Rating

September 20th, 2019 by

The 2019 Grand Jeep Cherokee midsize SUV has earned the Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The rating is applied to the 2019 Jeep Cherokees which were produced after April of 2019. They are equipped with Jeep’s available Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) technology, Forward Collision Warning-Plus, and LED projector headlamps with optional automatic high-beam control.

“This latest award is solid recognition for the Jeep Cherokee, an SUV that is not only recognized for being the most capable vehicle in its class. It is also packed with more than 80 advanced safety and security features and benchmark 4×4 systems to help consumers tackle any terrain in all weather conditions,” says Head of Jeep Brand of FCA North America, Jim Morrison. “Jeep Cherokee provides confidence and security to handle any journey.”

The high-strength-steel upgrades for the 2019 Jeep Cherokee’s hinge-pillar and A-pillar are among the changes. The updates contribute to the Top Safety Pick rating. These factors into the improved performance in the IIHS small-overlap tests, which simulate specific frontal impacts.

The Jeep Cherokee recorded “good” in the results, which is the highest possible crashworthiness rating; in all six of the crashworthiness tests. Three out of the six criteria simulate the frontal impacts. The remaining of the experiments went with what was the damage that was consistent in the side-impact, rear impact, and a rollover.

Forward Collision Warning-Plus had a “superior” grade, the highest possible rating awarded by IIHS when it comes to front crash prevention. An optional feature boasts sensor-fusion technology, which blends camera capability with radar detection to determine when an impact is imminent. An essential element to have in a vehicle.

The system will initially warn the driver to take action to avoid getting into a collision. If they don’t act fast enough, the system might activate the vehicle’s brakes. That is if the collision risk remains.

The Jeep Cherokee’s standard-equipment also enables the Top Safety Pick rating LED projector headlamps with an optional automatic high-beam control. The available feature can switch headlamp modes from high- and low-beam function, but that depends on the traffic conditions and without driver intervention. These are just among the 80 available safety and security features that are being carried over to the model-year of 2020.

The launch of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee has also marked the debut of a premium design language. The model line introduced the 2.0-liter direct-injected inline four-cylinder engine. That engine will enhance the vehicle’s performance and fuel efficiency.
