Why the Latest-Generation Wrangler is the Ultimate Upgrade

August 22nd, 2019 by

No other vehicle on the market today is as synonymous with off-roading as the Jeep Wrangler is. The latest generation, the 2019 model year Wrangler, arrived back in late 2018 and it’s impressed practically everyone. MotorTrend even named it its 2019 SUV of the Year! Many devout Jeepers are probably asking themselves if it’s time to upgrade from the already-capable last-generation JK Wrangler — our answer is a resounding YES and here’s why!

Turbo Power & Upgraded Axles

The 2019 Jeep Wrangler offers buyers more power with its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, amplifying its torque output when compared with the standard 3.6-liter V6 of the old-generation. Jeep also promised superior powertrains such as a diesel-powered powertrain and a plug-in hybrid variant within the coming years, clearly making a distinction between the two generations. The all-new Jeep Wrangler features Dana 44 axles, meaning that the vehicle can handle some of the more challenging courses while off-roading.

Interior, Dash & Doors

The interior of the JL generation Wrangler is a bold improvement over the past-generation Wrangler JK. Owners benefit from more cabin space thanks to a retro-inspired flat dash with its eye-catching design. Additionally, the JL generation Wrangler has a weatherproof interior, making cleanup a breeze. All owners have to do is pull some drain plugs and aim the hose if their Wrangler gets too dirty off the beaten path. Like other new Jeep models, the 2019 Wrangler offers the latest Uconnect infotainment system with either a 5.0-, 7.0-, or 8.4-inch touchscreen depending on the trim. The old-generation JK Wrangler offers buyers an infotainment system that’s more than a decade old and has zero smartphone integration capabilities.

High-Strength Bumpers

When compared to the old-generation Wrangler, the new JL features a stretched out wheelbase for a larger interior and overall use of high-strength steel in an attempt to reduce the vehicle’s overall weight. The bumpers are also redesigned to be more durable and to enable better departure angles when off-roading. Additionally, the Wrangler JL also features larger flares than the older generation which means buyers can outfit their Wrangler with tires as large as 35 inches in diameter.

Reduced Overall Weight

We mentioned earlier that the overall use of high-strength steel was specifically done to reduce the overall weight of the new-generation vehicle. The 2019 Wrangler features aluminum doors and fenders that instantly make this Wrangler lighter than its predecessor. Lighter doors and top panels mean that the new-generation Wrangler is easier to strip, while the soft top panels have been improved with a slide-and-lock mechanism on a track that’s miles away from the obnoxious zippers of the past.
