Rumor has it There’s a New Jeep Gladiator Altitude Trim in the Works

June 11th, 2020 by

Mopar and Jeep continue to deliver when it comes to the Jeep Gladiator model. Trim levels continue to expand, with the recently-introduced Gladiator Mojave, and other special edition Gladiator pickups — offering trim levels for just about any appetite. The latest special edition soon to be available on the Gladiator, according to Mopar Insiders, appears to be a more affordable variant of Jeep’s “High Altitude” trim, simply named “Altitude.”

Available on the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler models, the High Altitude trim customarily includes a Nappa leather interior along with plenty of other plush options. The rumored Gladiator Altitude would instead be based on the Sport S trim and feature a more utilitarian — think less luxurious — interior. Even though the rumored Gladiator Altitude would be based on the base trim, the point is for the brand to elevate the existing features — be it with different materials or upgraded technology features and more.

Mopar Insiders is also reporting that the Gladiator Altitude will borrow a lot of cues from the Overland trim, the next trim up in the automaker’s order. Features such as 18-inch Granite Crystal wheels, a Granite Crystal front bumper, body-colored fenders and more are all expected to be standard on the Gladiator Altitude. To distinguish the Altitude trim from the Overland one, Jeep will not add the side steps and the pickup will sport a standard three-piece hardtop only, according to Mopar Insiders.

The publication also believes that the Gladiator Altitude will come standard with the classic 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine and be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Mopar Insiders is also estimating the starting price to be somewhere in the $41,835 ballpark, although there has been no official confirmation from Jeep. Said estimate includes the destination fee.

The Gladiator Altitude would likely bundle several popular options while undercutting the cost of the traditional Overland trim. Jeep has been closely monitoring which Gladiator trims have been the quickest off the dealer lot, and the automaker is looking for ways to further cater to their clientele. If rumors are true, the Gladiator Altitude is an easy way for enthusiasts to group the most desirable features into one easy trim. There’s no official word yet on when we can expect the official launch of the Gladiator Altitude, but a new trim would be the perfect way to drum up excitement for the 2021 model.
